Leo Scherman is a Toronto based director, writer and producer.

 

He co-wrote and directed the WW1 horror Trench 11, winner of Best Feature Film at Toronto After Dark Film Festival. It garnered the highest audience award in the history of the festival and screened internationally at festivals including LA, Berlin, Manchester, UK, Mexico City, Chicago, Telluride and Whistler.

Scherman created the story and co-produced the period thriller The Weight starrinEthan Hawke and Russell Crowe 

which premiered at Sundance 2026.

Scherman co-created the TV series Cock'd Gunns, winner of two Canadian Screen Awards for Best Writing and Best Ensemble Performance.

 

With experience across features, documentary, true crime and comedy, Scherman has worked with major global platforms including Amazon, Disney+, NBC, BBC, CBC, IFC, Hulu, SyFy, TF1, Bell, History, Discovery and Vice.  Born in London, UK, Scherman was educated at McGill University in Montreal and trained under David Cronenberg.
